Nikhil Bhojwani
Principal at BCG Boston - Moderator

Nikhil is a Principal at The Boston Consulting Group and is a core member of the firm's health care practice. His current focus is health services though his experience spans the spectrum of health care and biopharma.

Nikhil’s started his career in India where he worked in marketing at the Times of India, then at a specialist consulting firm and finally co-founded and ran a startup for 3 years. During this time, he was a b-school guest lecturer, an award winning author and also wrote a monthly guest column for the Hindustan Times. Nikhil has an honors degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, and an MBA, also with honors, from the Wharton School.

Anuradha Acharya
CEO Ocimum Biosolutions, Moderator

Ms. Acharya is the founder & CEO of Ocimum Biosolutions, a Global Genomics
outsourcing partner for discovery, development and diagnostics. The company was
founded in the year 2000 and has completed 3 international acquisitions, Gene Logic
Genomics from Maryland, USA in the year 2007, Isogen Life Sciences from The
Netherlands in 2006 and the GD business of MWG Biotech of Germany in 2005.
Ocimum today has 2000 customers worldwide and operates under 3 main business
units of BioIT, BioMolecules and Bioresearch. Ocimum recently raised capital from
Kubera Cross Border Fund (KUBC) for an equity investment of up to US$17 million
(including the pro rata investment by affiliates of Kubera Partners, LLC, the Investment
Manager of KUBC). Ocimum was previously financed by the International Finance
Corporation (IFC), the private Equity arm of the World Bank.

Prior to founding Ocimum Biosolutions, Ms. Acharya has had rich experience in the
Telecom, IT and entrepreneurship arenas. She worked for a startup in the
telecommunications space called Mantiss Information and a consulting firm called SEI
Information where she helped create a social networking site for entrepreneurs. Her
experience is backed by education at premier institutions like the Indian Institute of
Technology at Kharagpur, India (IIT) and University of Illinois where she has two Post
Graduate degrees in Physics and MIS.

She is a regular in technology forums and round tables and one of the well known first
generation entrepreneurs in the Indian life-sciences space. She was named by Red
Herring Magazine to the list of "25 Tech Titans under 35" in 2006. Ocimum has received
several awards including "Fastest Growing Life Sciences Company in India", Red
Herring Asia 100, "IT Innovation Award" by NASSCOM and has been named to the
Deloitte list of Fastest Growing companies in Asia, three years in a row.

Ocimum Biosolutions is a global life sciences R&D enabling company with
three focus areas, BioIT, BioMolecules, and BioResearch. Ocimum delivers end
to end genomic products and services out of three strategic locations worldwide,
Gaithersburg MD, Indianapolis IN (United States), IJsselstien (The Netherlands),

acquired from Isogen Lifescience (The Netherlands), makes standard and modified
DNA, RNA oligonucleotides.

Rakesh Bamzai
President Marketing, Biocon

Mr. Rakesh Bamzai has been associated with the biopharmaceutical industry in India for over 15 years and currently serves as President of Marketing at Biocon Ltd. Biocon was established in 1978 as  an enzyme company but since the late 90’s has developed into a fully integrated biopharmaceutical enterprise. Since his joining the company in 1995, Mr.Bamzai has been a key player in spearheading this change. Today Biocon is a research-driven, global healthcare company with a strong matrix of capabilities along the biopharmaceutical value chain. Its priority has been the unaccounted medical needs in cancer, diabetes and inflammatory diseases, and offers novel and ground-breaking therapies on a platform of affordable innovation.

Within this context Mr. Bamzai has spearheaded many strategic licensing partnerships which have rapidly provided Biocon with a wider global access and greater market penetration enabling it to deliver breakthrough therapies to millions of patients worldwide. Building flagship brands for the Indian and global market has always been among Mr.Bamzai’s visions for Biocon. He and his team have enabled the company to penetrate markets in the US, the EU and other emerging economies. Not only has he helped establish and strengthen Biocon in the international front, but has also carved a niche for the company in the Indian life sciences industry. A Food and Fermentation technologist from the University Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai, Rakesh Bamzai also has a Post-Graduate degree in Management from the Narsi Monjee Institute of Management Studies (Mumbai). He is an exemplary recipient of the ‘Marketing Professional of the year-2004’ award accorded by Forbes, at the India Brand Summit.

Rashmi Barbhaiya
CEO, Advinus Therapeutics

Dr. Bharbhaiya is one of the founders, CEO and Managing Director of Advinus Therapeutics, a research-based pharma company located in Bangalore and Poona, India.

Dr. Barbhaiya started his industrial pharmaceutical career in 1980 with Bristol-Myers Company in US. In the year 2002, he join Ranbaxy in India as the President of R & D. He was instrumental in creating an R & D alliance between Ranbaxy and GSK, the first of its kind for an Indian company.

He obtained the Ph.D. degree in Clinical Pharmacology from the St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College, University of London and post-doctoral training at the University of Florida and University of Wisconsin. His scientific contributions have resulted in over 150 publications. He has served on the Editorial Boards of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy and Biopharmaceutics and Drug Disposition journals. Dr. Barbhaiya has received a number of awards for his scientific contributions. Some of these include AAPS Fellow, AAPS Meritorious Manuscript Award, AAPS Outstanding Achievement Award, Ranbaxy Award for Excellence in Pharmaceutical Research and India Life Sciences Person of the Year 2007 by Burrill & Company.

Shiladitya Sengupta
Asst. Professor, MIT-Harvard Health Sciences

Shiladitya Sengupta is an assistant professor of Medicine and HST at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital and MIT. An alumnus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, he recieved his PhD from Trinity College, University of Cambridge. He completed his fellowship in Biological Engineering at MIT. His current research focusses on emerging technologies in medicine.

He is the founder of Tempo Pharmaceuticals and Mitra Life Sciences. He was one of the TR35 (Tech Review top 35 Innovators under 35) winners in 2005, Indus technovator award winner in 2006, and recieved the Coulter Foundation Career Award and the DoD Era of Hope Scholar Award in 2006. he is currently involved in setting up a Translational Health Sciences and Technology Institute in India with the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India.
