VENTURE CAPITAL/PRIVATE EQUITY - THE INDIAN CAPITAL MARKETS

Entrepreneurship, public markets and private markets are booming in India and there has been a global stampede of capital flooding the Indian markets. However, the next big opportunities in India are likely to be different from any we have seen in more developed capital markets. From infrastructure to entrepreneurship, investors will need to redefine the opportunity set and the role of capital to address the unique needs of the Indian market place. In infrastructure investing, this may mean a greater emphasis on public-private partnerships. In venture capital it may mean funding businesses that meet the needs of consumers outside of the major metro markets. Whatever the next big opportunities are, they are unlikely to simply be recreations of what has been seen in major developed markets. With these issues in mind this panel will aim to understand how to overcome the impediments and think creatively to find the next big investment opportunities.
